Burning Passions Theatre

One of the things "missing" during the pandemic is Listen Up, Lanark!, the annual Burning Passions Theatre youth troupe that toured the county with plays addressing challenges faced by rural teenagers. In 2017, we focused on youth homelessness, still a significant challenge only made worse by the current health crisis. Burning Passions Theatre

On a day when children everywhere wonder about the arrival of a kindly bunny, a reminder of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Harvey, cataloguing the romps of Elwood P. Dowd (a role played by James Stewart on film and later stage productions, but originated by Frank Fay) and Harvey who, often dubbed a rabbit, is actually a púca, a mythical figure in Celtic mythology that turns invisible and chooses who he appears to. Harvey premiered on Broadway on November 1, 1944, at the 48th Street Theatre and closed on January 15, 1949, after 1,775 performances, making it the fifth longest-running Broadway show up to that point. Josephine Hull premiered the role of Elwood’s daffy sister Veta, and she won an Academy Award for her film version. Dooley Wilson (who sang As Time goes By in Casablanca) starred as Elwood in the 1951 Negro Drama Guild production, which also featured Butterfly McQueen as Myrtle Mae. ... See MoreSee Less
